The Partnership

Both have wide working experience in the state health sector so they have a keen understanding of the unique set of challenges that face hospital administrators and medical practitioners.

Managing Director of Smith & Nephew, Kelvin Johnson said: “We opened our South African operation 74 years ago and have remained here through good times and bad.

We have always sought to uplift disadvantaged medical students by providing bursaries and training. The Joint Venture between ourselves and Corez is a creative way of embracing the country’s B.E.E. philosophy, and of offering an empowerment opportunity to the Corez team and partnering with them to the advantage of both organisations.”

The majority shareholder and managing director of Icembe Medical, Dr Sbu Mhlambi is a Harvard graduate with a masters’ degree in family medicine. Sbu has had a varied and successful career as a clinician in private and public practice, an academic and an accomplished transformational leader / turnaround manager in the state hospital sector.

Strengthening his leadership is his high profile partner, Queen Thandi Zulu, an experienced nurse, business woman and leading health activist.
